Posted on 16/12/2021Ninety students from Sir John Lawes School in Harpenden showed their support for National Tree Week by assisting Harpenden Town Council to plant 950 trees at Porters Hill Park in Batford. The new hedgerow, stretching 180m, will provide a habitat for wildlife, form a shelterbelt to help to protect the Park from the elements, and reduce C02 for future generations. This project forms part of Harpenden’s Tree Planting Plan which includes planting 2000 UK-native trees across Harpenden by the end of 2023. Future tree planting days have been organised by Harpenden Town Council including 120 trees due to be planted in the same area, in January 2022. Harpenden Town Mayor, Cllr Paul Cousin said, “Our thanks to the staff and students at Sir John Lawes School for their hard work and commitment to local eco-projects."
