Getting to School
Students travel to school in a variety of ways. Our School Travel Plan encourages students who live locally to walk to school or cycle.
Cycle
If you would like your son or daughter to cycle to school then you will need to complete an application form. Your child will then be issued with a permit and must follow the rules that will be provided. A secure bicycle rack is available although students should also bring a lock for their bike. We strongly recommend that students wear a bicycle helmet.
Bus
Transport by school bus is available as follows:
- From Whitwell (E176) starting at 7.45am. Picking up at Kimpton, Blackmore End and Gustard Wood.
- From Cockernhoe (E188) starting at 7.30am. Picking up at Tea Green, Breachwood Green and Peters Green.
Go to Herts Direct for all Herts Secondary and Upper Schools bus route information.
Public buses:
- UNO bus number 657 starting at Flamstead Village School at 7.30am and picking up at Redbourn, Southdown and The George, Harpenden.
For further details on the Flamstead bus, contact UNO direct on 01707255764. For details on all public buses including timetables and disruptions information, go to Intalink.
We expect a very high standard of behaviour on the school bus from all our students and parents are encouraged to speak with their children about this as the bus company can withdraw permission for students to travel if they consistently misbehave.
Public transport buses are available from Wheathampstead, Southdown and the places in between.

Driving
The roads around school, Sauncey Avenue and Manland Way, can become very congested at the beginning and the end of the day. Parking directly outside the front of school on Manland Way is strictly prohibited to ensure the safety of all our students.
Parents are asked to be considerate in their parking, taking into account the school’s neighbours. There are also a number of parking restrictions in the area and it is advisable to check the roadside signs before you leave your car.
