Specification: AQA (7192)
Sociology is a fascinating and increasingly relevant subject that explores the relationship between the individual, groups and social institutions, in particular the family, the education system, media and the criminal justice system.
Students explore sociological perspectives; namely Marxism, Functionalism, Postmodernism and Feminism and apply them to sociological studies, ideas and concepts.
Example questions at the heart of A-level Sociology:
- Why do people commit crime? How should criminals be dealt with?
- Why do some students outperform others in the education system?
- Why have families changed in shape and size? How is childhood changing? What impact do social policies have on families?
- How does the media shape our behaviour in the 21st century? Does the media strengthen or undermine democracy?
- How does social class, age, gender and ethnicity affect our life chances and success?
- How meritocratic is contemporary society?
- What research methods are best to research the education system?
